Manuel Sánchez de la Torre has been appointed as the new Scientific Director of the Castilla-la Mancha Health Research Institute.

His expertise and leadership will be instrumental in driving all research initiatives and will help the Institute move toward scientific and strategic goals.
He joins IDISCAM after a distinguished career at the Institute of Biomedical Research of Lleida (IRBLleida), a center accredited by the Carlos III Institute of Health where he played a key role in management and reaccreditation of the institution, in addition to working in the advancement of knowledge as Head of the Research Group of Precision Medicine in Chronic Diseases. His experience at IRBLleida, an institution recognized for its commitment to innovative and cutting-edge research, will bring a valuable perspective to IDISCAM.
Dr. Manuel Sánchez de la Torre takes over the position left by Dr. Vicenç Martínez Ibáñez, who has played a key role in the development of IDISCAM since its inception. Under his leadership, the institute has made important advances in key areas of research, consolidating its position as a benchmark in the region.
As of today, Manuel Sánchez de la Torre will officially assume his responsibilities as Scientific Director. His vast experience and strategic vision will be instrumental in guiding all research efforts towards new discoveries and achievements. Profile of the new Scientific Director
Dr. Manuel Sánchez de la Torre (Jaén, 1980) is a Ramón y Cajal researcher and professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), with I3 certification from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. He is principal investigator in charge of the Chronic Diseases Precision Medicine Group. Author of more than 160 original publications (H-Index 32), he has supervised 9 doctoral theses and accumulated more than 1600 hours of university teaching. Manuel Sanchez has been Deputy Scientific Director of the Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida (IRBLleida) accredited by the ISCIII, National Coordinator of Sleep Research of the Center for Networked Research in Respiratory Diseases (CIBERES) and the Spanish Society of Pneumology (SEPAR). He is currently the Director of the Scientific Committee of SEPAR, and Group Chair in Basic and Translational Research of the European Respiratory Society. In the year 2023, he has received the designation of Fellow by the American Thoracic Society, a distinction of honor that recognizes professionals for their outstanding contributions to the society for research work in the fields of respiratory medicine, critical care and sleep medicine.
